Sky-Nets
Begins Helping General Aviation Airport FBOs Offer Public Wireless
Internet Eric Geier, founder and president of Sky-Nets says, "This marks the start of our mission to ensure the widespread availability of secure public wireless Internet access among the general aviation community. As gathered from our research, 55% of FBOs at small airports don't offer this service-which we're hoping to change. Three out of the ten locations we've planned for the first phase are up and running and we're planning to expand even more within the next few months." Locations currently in the Sky-Nets Wi-Fi Hotspot Network include: - Avcraft at Columbus Municipal Airport (OLU) in Columbus, Nebraska, - Strand Air Service at New Richmond Regional Airport (RNH) in New Richmond, Wisconsin - Ward Aviation Services at L.O. Simenstad Municipal (OEO) in Osceola, Wisconsin Pilots, passengers, and other visitors at these locations can now quickly check weather conditions, use flight planning tools, and access e-mail with their Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) capable laptops and PDAs. The wireless service, provided by Sky-Nets, is brought to their attention by window decals at the entrances and the tabletop signs within the waiting areas, which offer directions and tips for connecting and using the Wi-Fi hotspots. "Along with bringing free access to the hotspot users, we provide the participating FBOs with the pre-configured wireless equipment and other services at no charge. Our program is funded via sponsorships, which in turn creates a unique media outlet for general aviation companies and organizations," Eric Geier concludes.
